As you begin your memorizing journey with your kids, there are a few things to note.  Children can memorize very easily.  At a very young age, their brains are wired for growth.  Children are learning new words and all sorts of things around them.  It is the perfect time to help them start memorizing scripture!

You may find that it is easier for them to memorize than it is for you.  Let them see you struggle and keep at it with them.  This will develop a bond between the two of you and it will also help your mind to grow and expand.  As you work together on memorizing scripture, each of these inspirational Bible verses will help your child focus on the Holy Scriptures and the image of God who is our loving Heavenly Father.

Simple Ways to Help Kids Memorize Scripture 

Each person learns more easily in a different way and that’s okay!  Some kids learn more easily by hearing something rather than reading it.  If your child hasn’t learned to read yet, you may not know how they learn best.  When you start working on memory verses for kids to learn, you may need to try lots of different methods until you find one that works best for you and for your child.  

  1. Words and Pictures.  Young children often associate different things with pictures or colors.  You may want to add a picture to each memory verse so that when they see that picture, they will instantly remember the verse.  For example, and picture of heaven goes really well with John 14:1-3.  
  2. Practice, practice, practice. Memorizing takes lots of practice. But the more you practice and memorize, the easier it will become. Your brain is like a muscle, the more you use it, the more it grows.
  3. Time. Plan for specific time to work on memorizing scripture.  This doesn’t have to be a long drawn-out session, but find some minutes between activities to work on memorizing Bible verses.  Some opportunities could be while you are driving to school or running errands, making lunch, tucking in at bedtime, or during family worship.  
  4. Review often.  The more you review the Bible verses your child has memorized, the more they will become part of their long-term memory and not just a quick remember and forget.

  1. Love the list of scripture to begin memorizing with my son! He is only 2 but is always quick to catch on. Do not underestimate them! Would love to have some printable that were the verses in the checklist.
